    "Very good late summer break"

The title had us a little concerned, is it a hostal or hotel? The answer is a hotel and the Hostel tag came with the hotel when they expanded from a small hostel to a 3 star hotel. Situated in the centre of town with a large number of restaurants within easy walking distance and the sea only a short walk. The hotel has been kept in a good decondition with it's main feature the garden. Set behind a wall the garden is a little oasis in the middle of town. Very attentive service is provided for a cocktail, beer or tapas. The main dining room is in two parts and has a extensive la carte menu as well as a fixed price 3 course meal at lunch and dinner for around 12 euros including wine. We ate in the restaurant a number of times and was not disappointed. The rooms are of a good standard with comfy beds very efficient housekeeping and TV's. The one complaint is that no decent English channels are available, but, it's a bit sad to watch TV whilst you are on holiday. Family owned and managed with a lot of care from the resident director who runs a very good hotel. Bit noisy but, you are in the centre of town.

    "Oasis"

Ended our Costa Brava holiday in Palamos. This hotel is an absolute gem, a perfect oasis (even though we were disappointed with the resort). Situated right across the square from the bus station (noisy over the weekend), it proved to be the highlight of our stay. Lovely large room and excellent buffet breakfast served in a beautiful dining room. Restaurant / menu del dia offers amazing quality and value for money. Probably would not return to Palamos, but would certainly recommend this hotel if visiting the resort.

    "Lovely, lovely lunch"

We all SO enjoyed our lunch at this restaurant. We were staying a short distance away at a friend's place and it was recommended by a local as a place to eat the typical Catalonian rice dish - he was right; do choose it - it was delicious. We arrived at around 1.30 and they were full, but your name goes onto a iist (which is reassuring in itself), there is a nice area where you can sit and have a drink, and we waited less than the predicted half an hour before we were called. As above, the food was great - we had an aubergine salad starter, which was delicious and - as stated - the main course was great. The children's food - spaghetti bolognese and a quarter chicken - came promptly enough and they enjoyed it. The deserts were similarly delicious. The staff were patient and attentive without being in your face and the whole thing worked out at less than 70 euros for the four of us. Admittedly, we did not have any alcoholic drinks, but even so, that's pretty good.

    "Great discovery!"

It was a Saturday evening, and we didn’t have reservations. Where we had been turned down in 2 other places, the Maitre D at Vostra Llar suggested that we’d enjoy some cocktails, and she would sort our party of 6 a table. Cocktails were very good ( excellent Bloody Mary’s!), and the inner garden a perfect setting. After about 20 minutes we were brought to a perfect round table in a booth. The atmosphere was lively, but not to loud. We ordered eight different small dishes to share (“á la pica-pica”), and ordered fideus negres (sepia coloured noodles), which turned out to have a whole sepia underneath. All was fresh as can be, and wonderfully simple preparations. We asked for a bottle of white wine and were recommended the house-wine, which was just perfect, and cost 4,50€ (!) for the bottle. We ended up having a wonderful evening, ate very well, plenty and high quality, and paid just 25€ per person, all in. Extremely good value for money. We will definetely go back.
